Sometimes the best Sudoku session is one with paper, a pen, and no notifications. Here's what actually separates an easy grid from an expert one, plus how to get a puzzle onto paper if that's how you'd rather solve.
How difficulty levels actually differ
It's not just about how many numbers are given at the start - though that's part of it. True Sudoku difficulty is about which techniques are required to solve it:
Easy grids give roughly 36–46 starting numbers and need nothing beyond scanning and naked singles.
Medium grids give roughly 32–35 starting numbers and typically need hidden singles and pointing pairs.
Hard grids give roughly 28–31 starting numbers and usually need naked and hidden pairs or triples.
Expert grids give as few as 22–27 starting numbers and can call for X-Wing, Swordfish, or colouring.

Why printable Sudoku still has a place
No backlighting, no eye strain — better for long evening sessions
Great for travel — no wifi, battery, or app required
Encourages annotation — pencil marks for candidate numbers are often easier on paper than in an app
How to print a puzzle at home
We don't have downloadable puzzle packs sorted by difficulty yet, but you don't need one to solve on paper today. Open Noodler Sudoku in your browser and print the page (Ctrl/Cmd+P) to get that day's grid onto paper. A couple of tips for a cleaner printout:
Print at 100% scale rather than "fit to page," to keep grid lines crisp enough to write in
Use a fine-tip pen or pencil — the grid cells are small
Keep a small candidate-number system in the corner of each cell if you're solving in pen, rather than crossing out mistakes
Prefer to play on screen?
If you'd rather skip the printer, a new Sudoku is ready to play at Noodler every day - no paper required. Play today's Sudoku.
